Have you ever hit a plateau and your weight loss just stops before you reached your goal? It’s your metabolism slowing down and that’s when you shouldn’t give up! Your body is testing your strength and unless you are content with your progress you don’t give up. Anne Louise Gittleman author of radical metabolism gives us a unique perspective to dealing with a sluggish metabolism. Mocktails that are packed with nutrients that will get your metabolism going and help when you hit that plateau. The key ingredient to these mocktails is bitters. Never heard of bitters? These are a digestive enzyme that thin out bile that has become thick over time. In doing so they create healthy bile which can fix hormonal problems including hitting the plateau. Recreating healthy bile is important and beneficial especially in older women. Aging is a healthy part of life and with age comes age related issues and hormonal imbalances especially in women. Excess estrogen is one the barriers to weight loss and other health issues. Once bile flow is optimized according to Gittleman the body can break down and remove excess estrogen and help breakdown fat with ease. I read the book and it made sense to me. The author recommended incorporating bitters in drinks or mocktails and eating bitter foods. An easy way to get bitter foods is to take the supplement. I ordered my first supplement off amazon and was pleasantly surprised to see how they just seamlessly blended into the mocktails and tasted great.
I hope this is making sense since I have used a lot of nutrition jargon here. Well to put it very simply, Bitters is an extract of aromatic herbs, bark, fruit which have medicinal properties and contain both alcohol and water. The alcohol act as a solvent and preservative for the extracts. Bitters thins the bile and makes it healthy and healthy bile equals healthy body! Bile is an alkaline fluid that aids digestion and is secreted b the liver. If you need more information on this, read the book.
Here are 4 of my favorite mocktails that I tried out last week. I used basic recipes from the book and added some ingredients that appealed to me. I used stevia in all my mocktails, but you can use any sweetener that you wish. Sugar would not be a sweetener of choice because it would defeat the purpose of boosting the metabolism. Recommended sweeteners are agave nectar, stevia, erythritol, monk fruit sweetener and coconut sugar.

Note: I write about diet and weight loss because in my profession I have clients who need my help with that. I do believe the focus should be on healthy body and slim does not always equal healthy. And when I counsel my clients, I am careful to point out that. As with everything in life we cannot control health issues that may arise but doing what is in our power to be healthy will benefit us and those around us. I could be hit with cancer tomorrow and I have no control over that but doing what I can to keep myself healthy is my goal.
On that note its one week since I started my Social Media fast and I haven’t gone completely crazy yet :)! It’s been peaceful for the most part and I am learning lessons I know will strengthen me. I have been meditating more, reading more, exercising more and playing with my blog design and making changes. And oh yes, I dusted the cobwebs off my portable sauna and have gotten back to my old habit of using it before I go to bed to detox my body and rest better. I am also blogging more (my second post in one week) so yes keeping healthy and busy! Thanks for stopping by and have a good week!
