Dates blended with some ginger, paprika and just the right amount of spicy jalapeno to give it a kick make a great dip or chutney for a flaky pastry or meat dish. Ditch the ketchup and dip your chicken nuggets in this sweet and spicy dip ! I am making this chutney to go with samosas which I will posting with my Sunday Supper team ! We are all blogging our favorite comfort foods and samosas happen to be mine. I like them dipped in date chutney . This is my first time making date chutney ( I usually buy it ) and it tasted so good ! I used some apple cider vinegar to blend it together and just enhanced the flavor. Usually date chutneys have sugar, but I did not feel the need to add any. Dates are sweet in themselves and when paired with some hot spice actually taste sweeter. After I made it, I was literally licking it off my fingers. We had lasagna for dinner and I added a spoonful over it and it tasted gourmet yum ! I can wait to eat it with the samosas which I will be making this weekend, but until then I will be licking it off a spoon.
Nutrition Wise !
Dates are a chewy fruit that rank among the sweetest of fruits. If you want to satisfy your sweet tooth without reaching for sugar, eat dates. They contain health benefiting antioxidants known as tannins. Tannins are known to possess anti-infective, anti-inflammatory and anti-hemorrhagic properties. Dates are also high in fiber, iron and potassium ! Ginger is again known for its anti-inflammatory, antiviral properties. It is said to strengthen the immune system and clear congestion. I love adding ginger to my recipes and I even wrote a post about it ! It adds so much zip to anything dish !

I think cilantro dip with samosas is a good pair. But, this dip is more delish. I’ll make the samosa again with this dip 😀
I was wondering what the shelf life of this date sauce is. Can you freeze any access? or can you can it with other items you are canning?
I wold refrigerate it since it doesn’t have preservatives etc. Refrigerated, it can stay a couple of months. Hope this helps!
