I am doing a double whammy post again today ! I am blogging the letter P as part of the A-Z blogging challenge. I skipped the letter O, but will be getting to that post tomorrow 🙂 I am also participating in #SundaySupper and the theme is simple easy dishes. I love simple, easy recipes and am going to share with you one of my easiest 5 ingredient smoothie. I call it a soothing smoothie because it’s a great soothing accompaniment to any meal. Papaya has an enzyme called papain which is a great digestive enzyme and the base of a meat tenderizers. It helps with digestion and is great tummy soother, hence the name : Soothing Smoothie.
Papaya Magic : Papaya is rich in enzymes called papain and chymopapain which helps with the digestion. It particularly breaks down the proteins from the food we eat into amino acids. As we age we produce less of the digestive enzymes in our stomach and pancreas, which leads to ineffective digestion of proteins. Papaya fruit is a great delish source of dietary fiber, folate, vitamin A, C and E. It is also very rich in antioxidant nutrients flavonoids and carotenes, low in calories and sodium.
This stomach soothing smoothie has papain which helps digest any food in the stomach, hence it's a nice accompaniment to any meal. Use agave nectar or stevia to make it diabetic friendly.
